Autodesk visualizes architectural ambitions with Epic

The Future. Design software giant Autodesk is bringing the 3D-visualization power of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine to its architectural offerings, allowing designers to show off models as immersive, explorable, customizable spaces. With many people buying homes sight unseen in order to capitalize on a good deal, the tools could give prospective buyers the ability to get a peek at what they’re getting.

Fast Company reports that Autodesk and Epic Games are bringing to life the blueprint.

• Autodesk’s 3D-modeling software, Revit, will include the real-time visualization tool Twinmotion, which is powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine.
• That will make architectural models as “accessible and visually fluid as video games,” giving designers the ability to show customers and community stakeholders 3D walkthroughs of the spaces instantaneously.
• Designers could show off how a building might look with fewer or more floors, how the light comes in during certain times of day, and even get a sense of the dimensions of a room.
• It can also be used to show the community how a building will fit in its neighborhood, town, or city to help people visualize its impact.

Hopefully, the visualizations will help the homes or buildings get physically built faster too.
