The UK pilots four-day workweek experiment

The Future. Not-for-profit community 4 Day Week Global is launching a pilot program in the U.K. to measure the benefits of companies moving to… you guessed it… a four-day workweek. At least 30 companies are already involved, with the pilot program expected to launch in more countries this year. If proven successful, it could be a catalyst for many jobs to start basing salaries on how much is accomplished while at work instead of how long they’re at work.

Sleep-in Fridays
What if you could always have Fridays off?

  • 30 companies in the U.K. are taking part in a four-day workweek pilot program over the next six months.
  • The companies are reducing their workweeks to 32 hours.
    • Ironically, companies can ask for employees to spread those 32 hours over five days.
  • Employee pay and benefits will remain the same.

The U.K. pilot is just one of the many that are set to roll out this year. Shepherded by 4 Day Week Global, the U.S. and Ireland pilots are up next, followed by planned ones in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

The goal of the pilots is to measure “impact on workers’ wellbeing and assess the program’s effect on the environment and gender equality.” Studies already suggest that a four-day workweek increases productivity.
