Omicron doesn’t want you to return to work

The Future. COVID is once again ruining company plans, with the Omicron variant pushing return-to-work dates even further down the line. Despite work-from-anywhere models being an office worker’s dream, many early-career employees could be missing out on mentorship and promotion opportunities without facetime with supervisors.

Elusive return
Companies want to return to the office, but nature has other plans.

  • Despite setting back-to-office dates, major companies such as Ford, Lyft, and DocuSign have all pushed back timelines in the past week.
  • While the future may be a hybrid-work model, HR execs stress that it’s more difficult than imagined and may take two to three years to fully implement.
  • Gartner’s head of HR Brian Kropp says the trouble with hybrid work is a “consistency and evenness-of-experience question.”
  • That makes sense when many early-career employees and senior execs want to be in office, but middle management is pushing for a more-remote lifestyle.

The only thing we know for sure is that the longer COVID mutates and keeps infection rates high… the longer we all have to wait for an office Christmas party that is not on Zoom.
