After the popular Apple TV+ sitcom Mythic Quest was canceled, the streaming service allowed the production team to go back and turn its last episode into a proper finale… after the episode had already aired.
The Big Picture: The new episode of Mythic Quest may be the first time that the season finale of a show has been re-edited to become a series finale after the fact. While that may leave some fans wondering how the episode’s original cliffhanger may have developed, it does provide the satisfaction of closure.

- After the season finale aired, Apple decided to cancel the show.
- But the studio allowed the production to go back and switch out the final shot for another that could serve as a conclusion to the plot thread. It’s unclear if a reshoot was required.
- The re-edited episode, now labeled as a “Series Finale,” aired on April 18th… while the original version has been totally scrubbed from existence.
New End Credits: It’s unclear how many viewers of Mythic Quest are aware of the episode change… which could complicate the show’s legacy. But for those who find the series in the future, they’ll never know the difference. In the grand scheme of things, that’s likely preferable for creators… and could lead to a future where every show, prematurely canceled or not, gets an ending.
