The Future. The five most successful influencer-created brands, such as Something Navy and Glossier, are heavily weighted toward makeup, fashion, and fitness. Each of the brands is founded or co-founded by women, proving that social media is a major net positive for female entrepreneurs.

It may feel like every influencer has a successful company, but Insider breaks down which ones really have the goods (and aren’t just built around the idea of branded merch).

  • Something Navy. Founded by Arielle Charnas just last year, the clothing and accessories brand has already pulled in $32 million in revenue, struck a deal with Nordstrom, and opened three brick-and-mortar stores.
  • LTK. Founded by Amber Venz Box, the influencer and affiliate marketing platform helps bloggers earn a commission on sales they drive for brands. It generated $125 million in revenue last year and has been profitable for four years.
  • Sweat App. Founded by personal trainer Kayla Itsines, the paid-subscription app provides “high-intensity, low-impact, and yoga workouts.” After bringing in $75 million in revenue last year, Itsines sold the app to health and fitness company iFit for $300 million.
  • Huda Beauty. Founded by beauty influencer Huda Kattan, the makeup company has 250 employees around the world, hit a valuation of $1.2 billion, and expanded into fragrances and skincare.
  • Glossier. Founded by Emily Weiss (the mind behind the popular Into the Gloss beauty blog), the makeup company is one of the most successful startups in the influencer space. With $266 million in revenue last year and a valuation of $1.8 billion, it plans to IPO shortly.
