Crypt TV unlocks monster metaverse

Future. Horror studio Crypt TV (which launched with the mission to democratize the release of scary stories online) is getting into NFTs with “Monster Fight Club.” The release will allow holders to create monster avatars for the metaverse… a feat that could turn horror IP into an interconnected, decentralized exercise in genre storytelling.

Monster Fight Club
All these metaverse plans are missing one very important thing: good scares.

  • Crypt TV (the horror TV studio backed by Blumhouse and Eli Roth) has partnered with Metaversal on a collection of 10,000 NFTs.
  • Dubbed “Monster Fight Club,” the collection will include NFT artwork of Crypt’s most popular monsters from its content, including The Birch, Cakeman, Fluffy, Harclaw, Look-See, and Miss Annity.
  • Each holder will also receive a physical collectible card of their NFT.
  • Most interestingly, NFT holders will be given access to “ticketing features and a downloadable 3D monster file to use in the metaverse.”

The NFTs will go on sale first through Mint Pass on March 9th, 16th, and 23rd, with a public sale taking place on March 30th.

You can watch most of Crypt’s shorts and shows here. The studio is also behind Peacock’s Girl in the Woods and Amazon Prime’s Chhorii.

Virtual frights
Probably the coolest part of Crypt TV’s project is the concept of a “downloadable 3D monster” for the metaverse. As several companies vie to become the go-to providers of virtual avatars, Crypt TV wants your digital identity to be a unique take on one of their monsters — an actual possibility since each NFT is one of a kind and has “a different rarity based on combinations of backgrounds, skin textures and other features.”

Future NFT drops include a “Tormented Crystal” NFT that can be combined with a monster to make them stronger and upgrade one of seven characteristics: power, vitality, intelligence, agility, stealth, terror, and a unique supernatural trait.” That’s right — avatar power- ups! Now we’re in real gamification territory.
