Snoop Dogg announced that he’s moving his entire music catalog off Spotify and exclusively onto the Web3 streaming platform, Tune.FM.
The Big Play: Snoop has been one of the biggest supporters of all things Web3, NFTs, and the metaverse since they blew up in popularity during the pandemic. His ideas haven’t all taken off as expected, but the legendary rapper is hoping that a team-up with Tune.FM can provide artists with an alternative to Spotify’s stranglehold on music streaming.
Behind the Scenes: Snoop Dogg is making his allegiances clear: “I don’t f**k with Spotify anymore. I’m only on Tune.FM.”
- Not only will Snoop’s music migrate to Tune.FM but so will the entire catalog of his label, Death Row Records.
- He’ll also become the face of Tune.FM, with the first project of the partnership already available to stream — a single called “Spaceship Party,” which features violin from Tune.FM founder and CEO, Andrew Antar.
- Snoop plans to host fan experiences (like an event at his house), conduct merch giveaways, organize exclusive concerts, and build a digital community using the platform.
Last Track: Tune.FM is trying to make Web3 streaming as accessible as possible, allowing users to sign up and start using the platform and its native JAM tokens without (thankfully) needing to know anything about how the blockchain works. And for artists, the platform offers all the perks of the blockchain (tokenizing music rights, receiving tips and investment) and enables them to collect instant micropayments as their music is streaming — you can now see those pennies roll in!
Tune.FM is reportedly already in talks with Sony and UMG about bringing more top-tier artists to the platform, but Snoop’s involvement may give them the push needed to close those deals.
