Roblox enrolls in Parsons School of Design for a digital fashion course
The Future. Roblox and NYC’s Parsons School of Design are collaborating on a digital fashion course to teach students how to create designs that straddle the real world and the metaverse. While Roblox was originally billed as a kid-first gaming platform, an update coming this year will help “mature” the platform for its growing user base (both age-wise and amount of people)… possibly making it a more desirable place to outfit in fresh styles.
Game syllabus
Roblox is building a fashion course.
- Per The Verge, the Parsons School of Design class will “explore the intricate relationship between digital and physical fashion set in an immersive future.”
- Students will research virtual fashion trends, learn how to create pieces with Roblox’s tools, and then adapt pieces into IRL clothing.
- The class will culminate with students selling (or, at least, trying to sell) the clothing on both Roblox and to fellow students at Parsons.
The 16-week course will kick off next spring and be taught by Parsons professors, with support from Roblox execs from nearly every department.
With serious money getting dropped on virtual clothing in Roblox and major brands like Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, and Nike all rushing to craft experiences on the platform, it was only a matter of time until a college-minted “Roblox fashion designer” as a career path.
