ONE Sotheby’s selling first real home with a virtual counterpart in the metaverse

The Future. ONE Sotheby’s has teamed up with Voxel Architects and contractor Gabe Sierra to build and sell the first home that will exist in both the real world and the metaverse as identical copies. The development shows the skyrocketing value and utility of virtual real estate… and that the future of home ownership may be “bi-reality.”

What if you could go to your exact home in the metaverse? That’s what ONE Sotheby’s International Realty, Voxel Architects, and Meta Residence founder Gabe Sierra are plotting.

  • The team is selling the first “MetaReal” mansion — a real-world home with a duplicate virtual counterpart in The Sandbox metaverse.
  • The home — an 11,000 square foot Miami mansion with seven bedrooms and five bathrooms — is set to be completed in Q4 of this year.

An auction price has yet to be set, but the house will be sold on the Ethereum blockchain.

Double the rooms
What are the benefits of having a home in the metaverse that is identical to yours in real life? Sierra says that “the metaverse counterpart of the home will serve as an extension of the real-world home, allowing the buyer to host in-home meetings, events and parties with guests from around the world.”

And this isn’t just a one-off experiment. ONE Sotheby’s and Sierra have already acquired forty more acres in The Sandbox for development, which Forbes reports could include “commercial properties, marketing and gaming endeavors.” Imagine the property value they could get if they found a way to build around Snoop Dog’s virtual mansion, where someone has already paid a whopping $450,000 to live next door.
