Goldman Sachs interns are stressed and stretched

The Future. Goldman Sachs conducted its annual intern survey to pinpoint Gen Z’s attitudes about work-life balance, the effects of COVID, and the traits that make an employee successful. The survey may be a great look into how the financial leaders of tomorrow are processing today.

Bullish
Broken down by Insider, here’s what 1,800 Gen Z Goldman Sachs interns think about working (presumably at Goldman):

  • The key traits for future success are “emotional intelligence” and “learning how to code.”
  • Surprisingly, 40% of Goldman interns haven’t started investing themselves, but when they do, traditional stocks are the way to go.
  • 75% say that remote work and school will make it harder to develop meaningful relationships… especially as COVID isolation greatly affected their mental health.
  • Although 88% expect to get married, only 57% said they think they’ll one day become parents… down from 97% in 2019.
  • Respondents said that the nature of day-to-day work is more important than compensation… by only one percentage point.

In topics unrelated to work, Instagram is by far the most popular social platform among interns, while climate change is the issue that will “have the most pronounced global impact over the next 10 years.” That survey really covered everything.
