The NFL dives into NFTs

The Future. The sports industry has been one of the earliest and most enthusiastic adopters of blockchain. Adding to the mix, the NFL will start attaching NFTs to tickets — helping crypto reach new audiences… the sports industry may be a key vehicle for NFTs to gain even more momentum and fully break into the mainstream.

The NFT zone
The NFL is getting into NFTs.

  • NFL ticket holders for select games will now get a digital token included in their purchase to commemorate certain games this football season.
  • The first game where fans got an NFT was on November 7th, and the next one will be on Thanksgiving.
  • The league says NFT holders will have the chance to trade or sell their commemorative NFTs in the future.

Blockchain ballgame
The NFL’s move reflects a growing movement in the wider sports industry. From the NBA to the UFC, blockchain is taking sports by storm. Digital tokens open up a whole new (lucrative) world for sponsorship deals, team loyalty, and collectibles.

Take Sorare, for instance, the popular NFT startup with over $200 million worth of fantasy football cards traded on its platform. Or marketplace platform Ethernity… they partnered with global soccer superstar Lionel Messi on a “Messiverse” and generated over $3 million in sales in an hour.
