YouTube channels “Multiview” for Coachella coverage

Together with

The Future. YouTube is adding a feature to its Coachella livestream that’ll allow users to watch more than one of the six stages it’s covering simultaneously. The feature gives users the ability to toggle between artists without missing a beat, so don’t be surprised if YouTube convinces Coachella to add a YouTube-exclusive stage in the future.

One you, many stages
YouTube is bringing one of the most popular features of its NFL Sunday Ticket package to its Coachella coverage.

  • Starting Weekend 1 (April 12th), people will be able to use “Multiview” on connected TV sets to watch up to four different stages at the same time (but only hear one at a time).
  • Additionally, YouTube is tapping Highsnobiety to capture the festival on the ground, creating exclusive BTS content and artist profiles for Shorts.
  • Viewers will be able to shop for exclusive merch from acts like Bleachers, No Doubt, and Lana Del Rey via the Shop button that reveals a QR code.

Ali Rivera, head of YouTube’s live music and artist partnerships, says that the Coachella coverage is part of the company’s push to expand its reach in live experiences, especially when it comes to making music and sports coverage more interactive.

That strategy has led YouTube to cover other music fests like Rolling Loud California… so expect the Multiview feature to pop up at those as well.
