The Future. Esports lounge network True Gamers is building an island dedicated to all things esports that’ll ultimately cost $1 billion to develop. Joining an already growing number of islands that have turned Abu Dhabi into a major tourist destination, this island may make the United Arab Emirates the center of the international esports industry.
Ultimate playing fieldThe Mecca of esports is coming to Abu Dhabi.
The island near Al Raha beach will have “a luxury hotel, high-tech venues for global and regional tournaments, professional training facilities like the GG Bootcamp, and even content creation spaces,” per Hypebeast.
The resort will have 200 rooms, each including a state-of-the-art gaming computer.
There’ll also be “isolated rest areas” at the bootcamp for gamers to nap in between tournaments and access to a balanced nutrition program. (But will it have Mountain Dew?)
True Gamers hopes that the island becomes the go-to hub for the esports industry in the Middle East, which has defied global trends to become a burgeoning esports market and home to some of the biggest tournaments in the world.
A stunning fact: BCG reports that over 60% of the region’s population are gamers. Wow.
